What is the WWF? The World Wildlife Fund, also known as the World Wide Fund for Nature supports a factual, science-based approach to environmental conservation. The organisation funds around 2000 environment conservation projects and employs over 4000 people in a hundred countries around the world. The WWF aims to preserve our natural environment by implementing and supporting projects in three broad areas: conserving biodiversity, ensuring the sustainable use of renewable natural resources and promoting the reduction of pollution. |
Endangered Species & the WWF The WWF has been supporting projects aimed at protecting endangered species and conserving their natural habitats. The WWF draws attention to the issues faced by all endangered species by focusing on the plight of easily identifiable species called flagship species. This includes the organization´s symbol, the giant panda as well as elephants, rhinos, tigers, marine turtles and many more. By conserving threatened species in their natural habitat, WWF also ensures that the variety of life-supporting ecological services that are found there continue to function for the benefit of both humans and wildlife. |

Endangered Species & People The WWF have found a direct link between the conservation of endangered species and the improvement of quality of life for local communities. The vunerability of a species can be an indication that the local environment is suffering and needs attention. The loss of an endangered species can jeopodize an entire ecosystem. The WWF's mission is to stop the degradation of the planet's natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. |
