Did you know...? A zebra´s stripes are unique...just like a fingerprint! Zebra´s stripes act as a form of protection from predators - making it difficult for a preditor to focus on any one zebra in the herd. This is particularly true because most predators are color blind! The male zebra (stallion) is chivalrous, staying at the back of the herd to protect the females and young from attack. A zebra´s teeth grow during its entire live but are worn away by their constant chewing of grasses |

Zebras smile! Like humans, zebras bare their teeth as a greeting and to diffuse aggressive situations Zebras are social animals that can come together to form herds of up to 300 zebras. However within these large herd they live in smaller family groups. When a zebra puts his ears back, it means there´s trouble or "Follow me!" Zebras are attracted to black and white stripes. Even if the stipes are painted on a wall it will stand next to it. Most species of zebra are nomadic meaning they move with the seasons to the lands with the most food. |
The Plight of the Zebra Several species of zebra are in danger of becoming extinct such as the mountain zebra and the Grevy´s zebra that lives in the sub-desert areas in Africa. Other zebra populations are not classified as endangered but are in decline. |
