Aims, Goals, Techniques (AGO)

Description
Aims, Goals and Objectives is a device to
focus students directly and deliberately on the intention behind actions. Being
able to define objectives helps thinking areas like decision making, planning
and action of any kind which has a purpose. The intention of this process is to
focus attention directly on purpose as distinct from reaction.
Procedure
People do things out of habit, because others are doing it, as a
reaction to a situation or maybe for fun. These are because reasons. People
also do things for a greater purpose, “in
order to achieve” some objective. It can help your thinking if you know
exactly what you are trying to achieve. It can also help you to understand
other peoples thinking if you can see their objectives clearly.
Aims The Aim is the general direction of what you are trying to achieve.
Goals The Goal is
the ultimate destination. It’s what you hope to achieve in the long run.
Objectives Objectives are
recognisable points of achievement along the way. They should be specific,
achievable and measurable steps. Recognise that for the same situation,
different peoples may have different objectives. On the way to the final
objective, there may be a chain of smaller objectives, each one following on
from the previous. Some objectives will be more important than others to
master.
