Description

Baggage Claim is an activity designed to help a class get to know each other better. People circulate swapping pieces of information about themselves and later about others in the class.

Procedure

1. Give handout to students and ask them to fill in the five pieces of baggage with five pieces of information about themselves and their lives i.e. they have a dog called Spike, my favourite food is spaghetti etc. In essence, you ask them to pack their bags.

2. Ask students to walk around the room, shaking hands and introducing themselves to another person in the class.

The first time they meet another person, both students introduce themselves and tell each other what is in their bags i.e. what is on their cards. They should do this in a conversational manner.

The pair then exchange bags and seek another students to talk to.

As they greet another student, they introduce themselves and then tell the person that they have the wrong bag. They then proceed to talk about the last person they met using the information on the bag they are carrying.

After each meeting students swap bags and move on to another student.

3. After 5 minutes students stop. Ask students to read the name of person whose bag they are holding, introduce that person by what’s in their bag and return the card to that person so that everyone will be holding their own baggage at the end.
