Description

First Important Priorities is the crystallization of the process of selecting the most important ideas, factors, objectives and consequences. FIP is used to evaluate the importance of different ideas and follows brainstorming type activities. FIP is a judgement scenario and as such there are no absolute answers.

Procedure

1. List all options and circle the ones you believe are most important.

2. Explain why you believe those factors are the most important.

Link to Outcomes

Students recognise when and what information is needed, locate and obtain it from a range of sources and evaluate, share and use it with others.

Tips

1. It is important after generating as many ideas as possible to start selecting priorities.

2. Different people will have different priorities in the same situation.

3. You should know exactly why something has been chosen as a priority.

4. If it is difficult to choose the most important things, then begin by dropping the least important and then see what remains.

5. The ideas not chosen as priorities must not be ignored. They too are considered, but only after the most important priorities.
