Flow Chart (FC)

Description
Flow Charts are used to show how one event lead to
another or to illustrate a chain of events graphically or visually. Students
often have difficulty ranking or ordering information from least important to
most important i.e prioritizing, or putting it in sequential order.
Procedure
1. Identify the
key stages in the process or concept that is being studied.
2. Organise these
steps into a logical sequence.
3. Count up how
many boxes will be needed i.e. the number of stages, and consider how to lay
them out on a page.
4. Create your
boxes allowing sufficient space between them to draw linking arrows. Boxes can
be drawn as different shapes, size, colours to reflect the information’s
importance and relevance.
5. Write a brief
summary or use a symbol or illustration and caption of each stage in the right
box. Add the linking arrows.
5. Give the
completed flow chart an appropriate title
so that it is clear exactly what it is illustrating.
Link to Outcomes
Students describe and reason
with patterns, structures and relationships in order to understand, interpret,
justify and make predictions.
