Navigating through the ‘tree’

1.      Double click on a green folder to reveal its contents.

2.      Double click on a green folder to hide its contents.

Note: You may also click/double-click on the text associated with the icon.

Open and print an existing document in Microsoft Word

1.      In the tree, click on the blue document you want to print.

2.      Click the ‘Open’ toolbar button.

Note: If the document you are opening is a ‘template’ document, a message will appear, recommending that you do not make changes to it.

3.      Click ‘OK’, and the document will open in Microsoft Word.

4.      Click ‘File’ on the menu bar, and then select ‘Print’.

5.      In ‘Scale to paper size’, select ‘A4’ (see picture below).

Create a new document

1.      In the tree, click the blue document icon of the document you would like to create your own version of.

2.      Click the ‘New’ toolbar button.

  1. A message will appear: Create a new document based on a duplication of [this document]?
  2. Click ‘OK’.
  3. Type in a name for the new document, for example replacing ‘New number‘ with your own name (or devise your own naming convention). Use the Enter key to finish entering the name.
  4. Click the ‘Open’ toolbar button.

7.      The document will open up in Microsoft Word, and you can now make changes to this document.

8.      To save the open document, always save your document by either:

a.      clicking the Save toolbar button (it has a picture of a floppy disk),

b.      on the menubar select File, Save, or

c.      use the Ctrl+S keystroke (ie. hold down the Control key while depressing S).

This ensures that the document is saved within the Curriculum Organiser tree. For this reason, do not use the Save As command.

9.      To return to Curriculum Organiser: If you want to leave the document open while you view other documents, simply select the Curriculum Organiser application in the Taskbar (down the bottom of the screen). Otherwise, to close Word, simply use its close button (the X button in the top-right corner).

Graphic Organisers / Mind Maps

Ungroup a diagram for editing

If a diagram prevents you from editing or resizing any of its elements, you will need to ‘ungroup’ the diagram:

  1. Click anywhere on the page until a large box appears on the page.
  2. Hold the cursor anywhere over the perimeter of this box until a ‘cross symbol’ appears.
  3. Right click the mouse.
  4. Select ‘Grouping’
  5. And then select ‘Ungroup’.
  6. You should now be able to click into individual text boxes and edit the text and also adjust the box size.

Resize a text box

1.      Click on the text box – small dots will appear on the perimeter of the box.

2.      Hold the cursor over a dot until an arrow appears.

3.      Click and drag the dot to increase or decrease the size of the box.

Copying and pasting

This function allows you to copy information from one document in the Curriculum Organiser program (e.g. a Scope and Sequence chart) and paste it into another (such as a Graphic Organiser / Mind Map).

  1. Click on the document you want to copy from, then click the ‘Open’ toolbar button (and if it is a template document, click OK).
  2. If the text is too small, select a higher zoom from the Zoom drop-down toolbar button. You may also click the Zoom button to toggle between different zooms.
  3. Select the information you want to copy, so it is highlighted.
  4. To copy the information, use the Ctrl+C keystroke (ie. hold down the Control key, while typing ‘C’).
  5. Click on ‘Curriculum Organiser’ in the Taskbar (at the bottom of the screen) to return to Curriculum Organiser.
  6. ‘Open’ the document you wish to copy the information into. Ensure it is a ‘New’ document, and not a template document.
  7. Zoom to 100% if the text is too small to read.
  8. Place your cursor in the spot where you want to paste the information.
  9. To paste the information into the new document, use the Ctrl+V keystroke (ie. hold down the Control key, and then type ‘V’).
